Gisborne & Riddells Creek Veterinary Equine Services:

The Gisborne and Riddells Creek Equine services are open:

Monday-Friday: 8am-6pm
Saturday: 9am-12pm
Sunday: 10am-11: 30am


This large animal phone service operates through the Gisborne Clinics service, so any large animal enquiries should be directed to the phone number below.
The Riddells Creek Equine Clinic is only used for pre-arranged consultations, and large animal surgical procedure.

We have a Veterinarian on call 24hours a day for all emergency situations or advice over the phone.

Please note after hour fees will apply, and if your horse/pony, and large animal needs more specialized treatment, we may advise referral to a specialist clinic.

Riddells Creek Equine Clinic:
Our Equine Service is mostly ambulatory with our Vets visiting your property to examine your animals.
We have an Equine Clinic located at 19 Melvins Rd, Riddells Creek which has modern treatment facilities, with a sturdy crush, two indoor stables, outdoor rubber padded yards, anaesthetic knock down box, large animal anaesthetic machine, hydraulic surgery table, and padded recovery yard.

Services:
We offer many services from this clinic including:
Medicine:
We offer a full range of medical services, and procedures including evaluation, and treatment of poor performance, weight loss, diarrhea, colic, sick foals, high risk pregnancies, coughs and colds, and generally unwell horses and ponies.

Surgery and Anaesthesia:
Our Equine facilities at Riddells Creek allow us to perform a variety of surgical procedures, including routine geldings, cryptorchid geldings, periostial strip, hernia repairs, suture extensive wounds, apply casts, foreign body removals, and many more.
A dedicated Veterinarian using the latest in blood pressure, heart rate monitoring, and pulse ox equipment closely monitors all our Equine anaesthetics.

Reproduction work:
We scan mares for ovulation & pregnancy, including early detection of twins.
We can also perform artificial insemination with frozen and chilled semen.

Dental services:
We offer Veterinarians proficiently trained in using our powerfloat dental equipment, this is an electric powered tool, which allows for quick & efficient management of routine and more problematic dental work, this equipment is only registered for the use by qualified Veterinarian dental technicians.

Endoscopy:
We offer upper respiratory tract Endoscopy including assessment of gutwall pouches & Trachea.
The Endoscope can also be used for diagnosis of bladder problems.

Radiology:
Our X-Ray equipment allows the Veterinarians to Radiograph many areas of the horses legs and body, including stifles, shoulders, heads, and necks.
Our automatic processor allows quick processing and viewing of the final radiographs.

Ultrasound:
We have several Ultrasound machines suitable for various applications from reproductive work; tendon scans, to assessment of abscesses, lumps, chest and abdominal scans.

Pathology:
We offer an in house same day pathology service on routine blood samples, including haematology, and biochemistry.
For more specialised or complicated testing, we send samples to an outside independent laboratory for an overnight turnaround on most testing procedures.

DNA sampling/Microchipping:
DNA sampling and Microchipping can be performed by our Equine Veterinarians on foals and weanlings for the Australian stud book, and for other forms of Equine registration:

Pre-purchase examinations:
We offer experienced Equine Veterinarians to perform pre-purchase examinations tailored to suit your individual requirements, from children’s ponies right through to performance athletes.

Lameness:
Our experienced Veterinarians can assess lame horses, perform diagnostic analgesia to localise the lameness, and then recommend appropriate radiographs or referral for other required procedures, like Scintigraphy or specialised Ultrasounds.
